Music is our passion! Our dream: playing music together until we are too old to do so.
After a break of four years, Troy gathered again to reform as a band. Who is Troy? Troy is a band with six members: Marrieke van Geel (vocals, saxophone and flute), Michel van Geel (guitars), Wim van Veelen (guitars), Bastiaan Los (piano and keyboards), Randy Dubois (drums) and Arjan Pijning (bass guitar).
Troy was formed somewhere in 1995. A couple of friends started the band Sinical Glance. In this formation (with former singer Frank Tuk) the band records two albums. The last record is a true concept album; a "rock opera" called "Truth or Delusion". After this record Frank Tuk quits the band in 2000, and Marrieke van Veelen (now Marrieke van Geel) takes his place. The band also changes its name into Troy (called after one of the great musicians from the band Iona: Troy Donockley). Although a lot of new material is written during this period, it's not quite clear for the members of the band, to which direction they need to go. A shared vision is missing. Because of that, they decide to have a break in 2002. During the period after 2002, the members enjoy their needed rest, and the friendship between the members is growing stronger. But -as blood will show-: in 2006 the idea rises to reform Troy!
At the time the band quits, a lot of new songs are already written, but never recorded due to the lack of money. So with the gathering of the band, the idea rises to start recording these songs. Within a year or so, the new album should be finished. The songs are currently recorded in the studio of Pieter de Koning in Schiedam (Holland), and Troy is enjoying every minute of being together once again as a band and play music. The style of Troy (and Sinical Glance) can be described as progressive rock. While the band matures, the songs evolve to be more melodic. So maybe the style of Troy is best described as 'progressive melodic rock'...
The addition of the female voice from Marrieke van Geel, combined with the sound of the band, makes the music diverse. From heavy instrumental sounds on one side, to the sometimes fragile but always sensitive sounds of the voice from Marrieke on the other side. This makes the music very dynamic and adds a lot of emotion to the songs. Bands that use a similar approach are: Within Temptation, Camel, The Gathering, Iona and Evanescence.
The creation of new songs follows a certain pattern: one of the members comes up with a concept: lyrics, chords, a riff... Then the whole band just takes it from there, and a new song will eventually see the light (although this can take some time). Bastiaan Los has evolved as being the biggest 'musical brain' behind the band. Also his wife (Kitty Los) is responsible for writing some nice poetic lyrics for Troy.
The songs and lyrics of Troy are inspired by (emotional) events in the life of the band members. Most of the members of the band are christians, which is the reason why some songs are connected to Biblical texts and stories.
Let Troy take you into their world! A world of melodic music, weeping guitars, attractive synths, dynamic rhythms and a voice that delivers goosebumps! The music of Troy is intense, emotional, a bit dramatic and great to dream away!
